Starring Sargun Mehta as Randeep Kaur, commonly known as Rano, the film also features Gurnam Bhullar as Sukha, Sukhwinder Raj as Bhanta, and supporting performances by Rupinder Rupi, Nisha Bano, and Rabab Sidhu.
Rano works at a small beauty parlour in her village, cherishing the idea of a fairy-tale marriage and a move to Canada. As she grows older, the gap between her dreams and her reality becomes clearer: her school friends seem to have made it big while she struggles to keep up. Following her younger sister’s suggestion, she meets an immigration consultant who promises a path to Canadian permanent residency through a two-year cosmetology course. The plan comes with a steep price: Rs. 4 lakhs per semester plus a Rs. 5 lakh upfront commission. When Rano admits she has no money, the consultant coldly reveals that several men are willing to pay to obtain PR by marrying her on paper.
Reluctantly, she resists the idea of a paper marriage, but the consultant arranges a prospective groom to come to her workplace, causing a scene that gets her fired. Returning to her village, her father arranges her marriage to Sukha (Sukhwinder Singh) against her will. She moves into Sukha’s in-laws’ house, living with his aloof aunt and abusive brother-in-law, and she finds herself unhappy in the new life.
Sukha begins to shift her perspective, urging her not to give up and proposing that she start her own beauty parlour with the goal of moving to Canada within six months using their earnings. Yet jealousy from Sukha’s brother-in-law pushes the couple out of the house, forcing them to relocate to the city. There, a landlady lends a hand by letting Rano set up the parlour on her leased upper floor and by driving clients to the shop. Sukha helps with the daily grind—cleaning, mopping, serving tea—while the two work to rebuild their livelihood. Over time, the aunt also reforms and chooses to live with Sukha, Rano, and her young son.
Money remains tight, and they still fall Rs. 2 lakhs short of the target for Canada. They borrow from the landlady and gather funds through Sukha’s circle of company friends who start a chit fund. When Sukha’s brother-in-law learns of the money, he pressures Sukha to hand it over, threatening to throw Sukha’s sister out if he doesn’t comply. Sukha capitulates, and his sister and her kids leave, joining Sukha and Rano later in the journey. With no funds left for Canada, the landlady suggests Rano enter a bridal make-up artist contest hosted by real-life actress Neeru Bajwa. Despite looking down on her because she is not fluent in English and appears to be a simple village girl, Rano perseveres and wins through sheer hard work and Sukha’s steadfast encouragement.
On stage, Rano delivers a heartfelt speech in which she acknowledges that no one—neither her father nor anyone else—had supported her dreams. She credits Sukha with lifting her up at every turn and turning her dream into reality, declaring that every girl deserves a compassionate, supportive partner like him. She announces that her Canada is here with him in India, and she invites Sukha to share the spotlight as the audience applauds their resilience. The film closes with a new beauty parlour in Sukha’s village, where Rano tends to a client who happens to be Sukha’s classmate. In a final hopeful note, Sukha arrives with tickets to Malaysia, and the couple boards a flight together, symbolizing a shared future built on love and partnership.
