Superman/Shazam!: The Return of Black Adam

The film opens with a meteor streaking toward Earth and hitting the hillside where a young couple watches the city. It is revealed that the meteor is Black Adam returning from exile, setting the stage for the conflict to come.

We meet Billy Batson living in a rundown slum with little food and rats for pets. He clings to doing the right thing, feeding a homeless man and imagining a better future.

Billy heads toward a diner to rendezvous with Clark Kent. On the way, he helps a homeless man being robbed by bullies, and the man calls him The Captain for his courage.

Inside and outside the diner, Black Adam arrives and causes chaos by clapping and blasting a hole through the wall. Clark tries to shield Billy, but Adam knocks him through walls in a display of power.

Black Adam overpowers Superman with magical energy and pursues Billy through the streets. Billy escapes the wreckage, realizing he is in real danger and must find help.

Billy flees into the subway and is chased by Adam. After a tense chase, Billy awakens on a subway car with his glowing token and flashes of his past life appearing in his mind.

The journey leads Billy to a chamber of statues where he meets the Wizard Shazam. He is revealed as the next chosen one, and the backstory of Black Adam's fall from grace is explained. A cave-in forces him to escape.

Outside, a battle rages as Superman faces Black Adam and learns of the magical nature of his foe. Billy begins to understand that the power he will wield is rooted in magic and must be earned.

Billy confronts Black Adam and, in a defiant moment, shouts Shazam. Lightning surges and he transforms into Captain Marvel, quickly learning to use speed, strength, and flight in the fight.

Captain Marvel and Superman take on Black Adam in a two-on-one battle. Adam tries to flood the city by destroying a dam, while Superman uses heat vision and frost breath to stall him and save a hostage.

The homeless man reappears as Tawky Tawny, Billy's guardian angel in tiger form. He explains that he will ensure the Wizard can banish Black Adam farther than before and reveals that the Wizard is dead.

Tawky Tawny confirms the Wizard is dead as Black Adam is banished across the universe for ten thousand years. To avoid being banished, Adam shouts Shazam and returns to his mortal form, Teth-Adam, who dies from the strain of time.

Billy encounters the bullies again in an alley and they dare him to speak. He answers with the word Shazam, signaling his power and resolve as the story ends on a defiant note.
