Ship engineer Jim Taggert is rescued from a torpedoed steamer by American gangster‑turned‑fisherman Joe Morgan on a remote island. Morgan runs the Halfway House bar, a resort for planters, while secretly supplying U‑boats with torpedoes rigged to explode at sea, sinking them. Taggert, held captive among entertainers, discovers the scheme and vows to die a hero’s death to stop the Nazis.
