Maddalena is a thirty-year-old ghostwriter who struggles with low self-esteem and awkwardness in relationships. She is consistently treated as the least favored by her religious mother Grazia, and she watches her sister Maria's success while she remains overlooked. At work, she endures mistreatment from director Erika and is drawn to the publishing house's charming head, Donato.

Donato invites her for a night of sex, despite knowing he is married. The encounter fizzles because of her clumsiness in undressing, which dampens his desire. She resolves to become more confident and seeks inspiration by browsing porn sites.

After eating a marijuana cake from her roommate Stefano, Maddalena begins visions of porn star Valentina Nappi who begins giving her advice on how to boost her self-esteem. The visions feel vivid and push her to experiment with confidence, even as she remains unsure.

At her sister Maria's gender reveal party, Maddalena meets Leonardo, a relatively unknown comedian. His self-irony and confidence captivate her, and they begin a budding friendship.

During Lara's book launch event, Erika treats Maddalena poorly, leading her to resign on the spot. The incident is filmed by the audience and goes viral.

At the launch event for her own novel, Maddalena confesses her feelings to Leonardo and they have sex in the bathroom. Their connection evolves into a stable relationship.

In a mid-credits scene, Maddalena attends an event featuring Valentina Nappi and thanks her for the advice. The porn star does not recognize Maddalena and has her removed from the event.
