During the production of *Way Out West*, Stan Laurel grapples with a significant decision regarding his future. He chooses to reject a contract renewal with Hal Roach, feeling underappreciated despite their immense fame.

While Stan seeks better opportunities, Oliver Hardy is still tied to his existing contract with Hal Roach. This leaves Ollie in a precarious position as he is cast in another film, *Zenobia*, causing a rift in the duo's collaboration.

A crucial meeting with Fox to secure new projects ends poorly as Ollie’s absence proves detrimental. Stan feels deeply betrayed by Ollie’s dedication to Roach, leaving a lasting impact on their partnership and trust.
