Miranda Hollander possesses the rare ability to read books by touch, a talent that sets her apart from others. This background foreshadows the dual life she will lead between humanity and something alien.

After her birthday, Miranda passes out and is rushed to a local hospital. Tom Hollander, who lives with her as her guardian, is notified by the police about the incident. The hospital scene marks the start of the horror that will unfold.

In the hospital, Miranda transforms into an alien form and goes on a killing spree, leaving chaos behind. Tom arrives the next morning to a room full of bodies and the grisly aftermath. The hospital setting becomes the first battlefield of her new existence.

Tom locates Miranda and injects her with human hormones to suppress her alien DNA. He then drives her toward Mexico, hoping to find a way to save or control her condition. The journey marks the first deliberate intervention against her inhuman nature.

In Mexico, Tom and Miranda find Forbes McGuire and his assistant Azura, who live with their own hybrid experiments. Forbes explains that he has been blending human and alien DNA, and Miranda is part of a broader, dangerous project. The revelation reframes her condition as the product of a deliberate scientific experiment.

Forbes warns that Miranda will die in days unless he can inject fresh human DNA. He explains that the cure would require a donor and could demand a sacrificial price. Miranda refuses the idea, fearing the moral and personal cost.

Forbes determines Miranda's condition is life-limiting, and the team tries to obtain a donor. While Tom searches, he is mugged; Azura intervenes and incapacitates the mugger. Back at Forbes' lab, they succeed in extending her life but not curing the underlying disease.

Miranda's hormone balance proves unstable, and her alien side becomes increasingly dominant. She begins acting on her basest impulses, including seduction and a growing appetite for danger. The tension between humanity and the alien force escalates as the cure remains elusive.

Driven by the alien sex drive, Miranda seduces an innkeeper in a bar, only to discover he is sterile and kills him mid-act when she realizes his sterility. She pursues other potential mates at the bar, stealing a red dress to enhance her appearance. The bar scene demonstrates how far her alien identity has detached from normal humanity.

Tom wants to sedate Miranda to stabilize her condition, but Forbes offers a near-lethal dose instead, warning that she is a completely pure creature. The plan highlights the risk of any intervention and foreshadows the brutal consequences. The atmosphere grows tenser as they edge toward a critical turning point.

While investigating a church, Tom is attacked by Azura, who resents the disruption to her experiments. He knocks her out with a cross, though she heals and remains dangerous. The confrontation underscores the personal cost of the project.

Forbes tracks Miranda to an abandoned warehouse where she strips naked; Miranda reveals Forbes has wanted to have sex with her since they met. Forbes gives in to his lust, allowing Miranda to copulate with him. Once finished, Miranda changes into alien form and suffocates Forbes by swallowing his tongue; Tom arrives to witness the aftermath.

Tom takes Miranda back to Forbes' house, where an X-ray reveals a hybrid child rapidly growing in her womb. Miranda says her humanity is dying, and that she does not want to be pure alien. Azura returns in alien form, and Tom is forced to fight her.

Azura fatally impales Miranda during the final confrontation, and Tom kills Azura with a shotgun. In human form, Miranda thanks Tom for giving life before dying.

Grief-stricken, Tom sets the house's gas burners and tanks to ignite and leaves as the building explodes behind him. The blast marks the tragic end of Miranda's hybrid story and Tom's solitary vigil over her life.
