A mysterious figure arrives at the White House carrying a specially designed cage. Inside is Pushok, a spirited stray dog from Moscow, sent as a gift from Soviet Premier Nikita Khrushchev for Caroline Kennedy.

Three years earlier in Moscow, a charismatic individual named Vova begins his mission to rescue stray dogs from the streets. His latest target is an adventurous terrier mix named Strelka, who yearns for a better life.

As Vova closes in on her, Strelka bravely escapes her mundane life with her loyal friend Lenny the rat. Their adventure marks the beginning of an extraordinary journey for the duo.

Meanwhile, a Samoyed named Belka prepares for a significant rocket mission. However, the launch goes awry as her space capsule crashes onto a payphone, causing a comical scene that leads her to Lenny.

In the aftermath of the crash, Belka and Lenny form a bond with a group of strays including Bula, Mula, and Pirate. This motley crew finds camaraderie amidst the chaos, united by their shared experiences.

Vova's relentless pursuit leads to the canines being captured, but destiny intervenes and transports them to Baikonur, the Soviet space program's training facility. Here, they prepare for what comes next.

At Baikonur, Kazbek, a seasoned German Shepherd, is tasked with selecting dogs for a pivotal mission. Initially, Bula and Mula are chosen, but Strelka and Belka eventually secure their spots due to their exceptional training.

As the mission date nears, the dogs undergo intense training, forging strong bonds among themselves. However, they also confront personal challenges that test their resilience and commitment to the mission ahead.

The selected dogs embark on their space journey, filled with excitement and trepidation. They face an unexpected dilemma as Strelka questions her desire to return home, influenced by memories of her father, Sirius.

Their serene journey is disrupted by a sudden meteorite storm, causing chaos on board. Strelka, Lenny, and Kazbek work frantically to extinguish the fires erupting in their vessel.

Amidst the destruction, Belka makes a courageous move to stabilize the rocket and steer it back to safety. Her bravery inspires the others as they unite to combat the threats facing their mission.
