Stephen Sorrell, a war hero, raises his son Kit alone after the mother abandons them. When a promising job falls through, he works as a hotel porter, enduring harsh labor that damages his health. He sacrifices for Kit, after letting him think his mother is dead, until she returns and forces a hard choice. Preserved by Academy Film Archive, 2004.
