Solid Serenade

In the backyard, Spike is confined inside a doghouse labeled Killer. Tom pokes his head over the wall and spots Toodles in a window. He leaps the fence with a hybrid string instrument in hand and, using a mallet, knocks Spike on the head and ties him up. He then uses the cello like a pogo stick to launch toward the window, pausing to flick Spike's nose along the way.

After securing Spike, Tom rockets toward Toodles' window, using the cello as a pogo stick to gain elevation. He keeps Spike restrained with a quick, outward flourish and continues the ascent. The moment emphasizes Tom's blend of gimmick and mischief as he targets the cat through the window.

Tom performs Is You Is or Is You Ain't My Baby for Toodles, waking Jerry who is sleeping inside his mailbox mousehole. Jerry pokes out, then retreats under his pillow to hide from the racket. The sound waves shake Jerry's home, causing him to fall from the bed and scramble under the table as a flower pot rolls toward him and lands on him.

Outside, Tom uses the instrument as a bow to launch himself toward Spike, who is still tethered. He tortures the dog by plucking its mouth as he returns to the instrument for another shot. The reckless maneuver shows Tom's willingness to use the instrument as a weapon to reach his target.

The vibrations from Tom's playing rattle Jerry's mousehole and scatter his belongings. The chaos leaves the interior a mess and foreshadows Jerry's next plan. Place: Mailbox / Mousehole

As the tremors continue, Jerry is pushed toward the mail-slot lid, and a match holding it up falls, slamming the lid down on him. The incident heightens Jerry's resolve to seek revenge on Tom.

Jerry devises a revenge scheme by stuffing an iron into a pie and tossing it at Tom through an open window. Tom is angered but keeps playing, failing to see the trap set for him.

Seconds after the iron pie is hurled, Tom is struck in the face by a pie, followed by a second pie topped with whipped cream. The assault spurs a wild chase through the house as both animals keep moving.

Tom and Jerry dive off an ironing board into a kitchen chase while Jerry drains the sink and Tom crashes into crockery. Tom pursues Jerry through the open window, but Jerry pulls the window stop off, which falls on Tom's neck and makes him shriek in pain.

Jerry runs to Spike's doghouse and unties him, prompting Spike to unleash a loud bull roar. Spike swaps his regular teeth for larger ones and, after blowing off steam, goes after Tom with renewed ferocity.

Spike's new teeth rush toward Tom, but Tom ducks and narrowly avoids a bite. The teeth lodge in a nearby tree trunk, allowing Tom to hide behind a wall with a brick raised to strike. Spike investigates but is knocked on the head by the brick, ending the immediate threat.

Jerry hits Spike with a wooden plank to revive him, and Spike leaps into action while Tom is framed by the chaotic scene. Tom then uses a fetch trick on Spike, pretending the board is a stick as the chase resumes, with Toodles Galore watching.

In the final gag, Tom is fused into his instrument in place of the strings, with Spike strumming Tom's tail while Jerry bows a dramatic ostinato on Tom's whiskers. Toodles watches the surreal tableau as the cartoon ends in a musical crescendo.
