Shiva is a young, carefree guy who actively supports love marriages and helps couples defy parental opposition. His optimistic outlook makes him a reliable ally for those who want to marry for love.

On a train, Shiva spots Tanu loudly proposing from a nearby field, which he misreads as a real confession. In truth, Tanu is performing an audition, and this misinterpretation drives him to chase after her. He even jumps off the train to pursue her.

Shiva follows Tanu to a school, where she is rehearsing a theatre piece. He believes she has fallen for him, but she treats him with rejection and keeps her distance.

Shiva tries to test Tanu's feelings by arranging his friend Rishi's marriage to her lover and telling Tanu to turn back if she loves him. He warns that if she does not turn back in time, he will step away from her life.

Bhoji Reddy's men come to beat Shiva because he had beaten up his son. He warns that if Tanu turns back, he will beat them; if she doesn't, he will come with them.

Abhi, who has been looking for Shiva, arrives and takes Tanu with him. This move sets up the looming conflict between Abhi and Shiva over Tanu.

Shiva's father reveals that his real name is Ram, and explains a painful past: Ram and Shiva were best friends until Shiva committed suicide, and Ram had loved a girl who also killed herself. He hid this history to protect their chance at marriage.

Tanu realizes her mistake, Bhoji yields, and Abhi suffers memory loss in the aftermath. In the final scene, Tanu meets Shiva/Ram at a mall, proposes to him, and he accepts; they live happily together.
