Months earlier, Jen is driving with her cousin Bruce Banner when a spaceship appears suddenly in front of them, causing her to swerve and crash. During the chaos, Bruce's inhibitor breaks, and some of his blood mixes with Jen's open wound, triggering her transformation into She-Hulk for the first time. This incident begins her transformation into a Hulk.

After transforming into She-Hulk, Jen wakes up disheveled in the wilderness and seeks refuge in a bar's bathroom. Several women take pity on her, mistaking her appearance for abuse, while outside, men approach her aggressively, prompting her to transform again and defend herself. She is then taken to a safe underground facility where Bruce explains her powers.
