When the film reaches its climax, CJ finally understands that the only way to undo Calvin’s murder is to make one flawless jump back to the exact moment before he is killed. The backpack they built can open a wormhole only one day into the past, and the portal stays open for roughly ten minutes before it collapses. Because the quantum foam that powers the jump is unstable, any mistake would strand the traveler in a paradox‑filled loop – a mistake Sebastian already paid for when he died in the vortex during his own rescue attempt.

Sebastian’s death, however, is not wasted. In his final burst of energy he creates a stable quantum splice that Eduardo’s circuit board can use to “phase” the jumper past her own previous self, allowing CJ to occupy the same timeline without causing a destructive overlap. Armed with this splice and the knowledge that she has exactly ten minutes, CJ launches a last, desperate trip.

She arrives moments before the shooting, intercepts Calvin, and convinces him to leave the alley. In that brief window she also manages to keep herself hidden from her past‑self, preventing a temporal feedback loop. As Calvin disappears into safety, the wormhole collapses, sealing the timeline. CJ is thrust back to the present, breathless and empty‑handed, but now carries the certainty that Calvin survived.

The film ends with CJ standing on the rooftop, clutching Calvin’s dog tags – a tangible reminder that love and sacrifice can bend even the strictest rules of physics. The tags are the only proof she has that the past was changed; everything else remains the same, and Sebastian’s sacrifice lives on only in the knowledge that she was able to rewrite her brother’s fate. In this way, the ending ties the sci‑fi mechanics to the film’s core message: personal agency and grief can drive us to push the boundaries of what’s possible, even when the universe seems unyielding.
