In a fit of rage fueled by relentless bullying from his elder brother, Krishna takes drastic action by setting his motorbike ablaze. This impulsive act leads to significant consequences and sets the stage for his subsequent journey.

Krishna's furious mother decides that he must earn 500 rupees as compensation to return home after his destructive act. This ultimatum serves as the catalyst for Krishna's adventure with the Apollo Circus.

While the circus relocates to a new venue, Krishna is sent on an errand but returns to find that he has been abandoned. Stranded and unable to repay his mother, he resolves to journey to Bombay.

Upon arriving in Bombay, Krishna quickly becomes a victim of theft, losing everything he had. This unfortunate event marks the beginning of his struggle to survive in a harsh new environment.

In a twist of fate, Krishna encounters the very thieves who robbed him and forms an unexpected friendship with them. This connection leads him to the grim realities of life in the notorious red-light district.

Among the thieves, Krishna meets Chillum, a drug dealer struggling with addiction. Chillum takes on the role of an unlikely mentor, helping Krishna find work at the Grant Road Tea Stall.

Krishna learns about the local drug lord Baba, who employs addicts like Chillum to work for him. Meanwhile, Baba's wife Rekha battles her own struggles while raising their daughter Manju amidst the chaos.

Adopting the alias 'Chaipau,' Krishna attempts to navigate his new life while staying focused on his goal of earning the 500 rupees. However, the challenges of survival and making money prove to be immense.

Krishna develops feelings for Sola Saal, a young girl trapped in a brothel. In a desperate bid to save her, he sets fire to her room, but their escape attempt is thwarted, leading to a brutal beating for Krishna.

After Krishna loses his job at the tea stall, he undertakes various odd jobs to support Chillum. Unfortunately, Chillum's drug dependency worsens following a mishap, leading to a tragic overdose and death.

One fateful night, Krishna and Manju are captured by the police and sent to a juvenile home. Krishna's subsequent escape thrusts him back into the perilous world he desperately tried to leave behind.

Krishna attempts to persuade Sola to escape their grim surroundings, but she confesses her feelings for Baba, leading to a heart-wrenching rejection. This moment deepens Krishna's sense of isolation and despair.

Rekha learns that the authorities will not release her daughter Manju due to her profession as a prostitute. Fueled by anger and desperation, she attempts to leave Baba, only to face his brutal retaliation.
