Gauche and Link lead a gang to rob the express train carrying $400,000 and a ceremonial tachi destined for the president. Gauche steals the gold-handled tachi and kills one of the ambassador's samurai bodyguards. Dynamite is thrown into Link's car, leaving him badly injured and presumed dead.

Gauche retrieves the loot and buries the money, then eliminates the remaining gang members to keep all the prize for himself. He pays off others who go their own way, consolidating control over the robbery spoils. The confrontation's aftermath leaves Link's fate uncertain and Gauche the sole keeper of the stash.

Link is revived and the ambassador orders him to assist Kuroda in tracking Gauche and recovering the sword. Kuroda, a surviving samurai, swears that he will kill Gauche to honor his ancestors. Link reluctantly agrees to help after the ambassador's insistence.

With reluctant cooperation, Link and Kuroda set off in pursuit of Gauche across unfamiliar terrain. Link repeatedly tries to elude his relentless tracker, testing their uneasy alliance. The chase highlights the clash between different codes of honor.

As they close in, Kuroda explains that his countrymen are losing touch with their cultural values and the samurai code. He believes reclaiming the sword and restoring the ancestral way of life is essential. Link begins to respect the discipline and resolve of Kuroda.

They raid a ranch controlled by Gauche's men, killing the guards and taking their horses to press forward. Link briefly escapes from Kuroda, but after reflecting on Kuroda's code, he returns and warns that he will kill Gauche if the bandit dies before revealing the hideout.

The pursuit leads to San Lucas, where Cristina is kept in a brothel. Link and Kuroda trap her inside a room and confront Gauche's four men who come to fetch her; they kill three of them, and the remaining man is sent back with a message that Cristina will be exchanged for the sword and Link's share.

Gauche and his men arrange an exchange at an abandoned mission a day's ride away; the plan hinges on swapping Christina for the stolen sword and Link's loot. Link and Kuroda prepare for the handoff, aware that honor, loyalty, and greed are at stake. The edge of treachery hangs over the deal.

Christina escapes from Link and Kuroda and runs into a band of Comanches. The Comanche leader binds her with wet rawhide, which tightens as the sun dries it, threatening her life. Link and Kuroda push to intervene, killing most of the Comanches and driving the leader away.

At the abandoned mission, Gauche ambushes Link and Kuroda, with Cristina pleading for mercy. The Comanches attack again, forcing the rivals to fight on the same side. They repel the assault and emerge to confront Gauche as the confrontation climaxes.

Gauche faces Link with dwindling bullets; Kuroda steps forward but Gauche shoots him, mortally wounding the samurai. Link, seizing a rifle, kills Gauche and honors Kuroda's memory by vowing to return the sword to the ambassador.

Cristina offers to join Link in tracking down the remaining money, but he declines, choosing to fulfill his duty to return the sword. He remains committed to honoring the ambassador and Kuroda's memory. The bond forged in pursuit shapes his future choices.

Before the ambassador's train arrives, Link hangs the ceremonial sword from a telegraph wire in front of the station, symbolically returning it to the president’s gift. He vows to settle the money through proper channels, completing the pledge he made to the ambassador. The moment marks the restoration of honor, even as the journey to recover the money continues.
