Raw Deal

An FBI-protected mob informant is ambushed in a remote wooded cabin. The assailants slaughter the informant's bodyguards and kill Blair Shannon, the son of FBI agent Harry Shannon. Harry Shannon vows revenge, setting the personal stakes for the mission ahead.

Mark Kaminski, a small-town sheriff with an alcoholic wife, Amy, is introduced as a former FBI agent who faced brutal scrutiny. He is suspended from the FBI after pressure to resign, and Marvin Baxter begins a committee to probe Luigi Patrovita's Chicago Outfit dealings.

Due to the FBI leak and rising agent deaths, Harry Shannon recruits Kaminski for an unsanctioned assignment to infiltrate Patrovita's organization. Kaminski agrees to go undercover to dismantle the mob from within.

Kaminski fakes his own death in a chemical plant explosion and assumes the alias Joseph P. Brenner, a convicted felon. He uses the disguise to insert himself into Patrovita's inner circle and begin gathering intelligence.

To prove his worth, Brenner harasses rival Lamanski and edge into Patrovita's territorial domain. His actions help him win the confidence of Patrovita's faction and begin a slow infiltration.

At Patrovita's casino, Brenner meets Monique, who works for Rocca's top lieutenant Max Keller. She becomes a key ally in Brenner's undercover operation and provides critical inside access.

Brenner devises a scheme to recover $100 million in heroin and cash seized by the feds from a Patrovita hideout and to assist in Lamanski's assassination. The plan strengthens Brenner's standing and tightens his leverage over the organization.

Keller grows suspicious of Brenner's identity and shows Brenner's photo to a police informant who previously arrested the real Brenner. The FBI leak is traced to Baxter, who must stay close to Patrovita to manage the fallout.

Kaminski accompanies Keller to a cemetery for a hit, but the target is Shannon. Brenner is forced to reveal himself and kills Keller in the ensuing shootout, while Shannon is severely wounded.

Kaminski escapes with Monique's help and tells her to go to the airport and wait for him. He begins gathering an arsenal of weapons and consolidates resources for a final strike.

Kaminski launches a brutal raid on one of Patrovita's gravel pits, killing all of Patrovita's men and seizing a large cache of heroin and cash. The raid demonstrates the extent of Brenner's commitment to the mission.

Kaminski storms Patrovita's casino and wipes out Rocca's men and the ones responsible for Blair's death. Rocca is slain, and Patrovita flees to an office, where Brenner guns him down in cold resolve.

In a tense back room, Baxter tries to plead his case, but Brenner executes him in self-defense after Baxter attempts to shoot. The line about resigning or being prosecuted echoes as Brenner enforces his own form of justice.

Kaminski is reinstated with the FBI and heads to the airport with a duffel bag containing $250,000 for Monique to start a new life. He is reunited with his pregnant wife Amy and thanks Shannon for his help, asking Shannon to be the godfather of his child; Shannon accepts.
