In the blazing summer of 1959, 14-year-old Priscilla Beaulieu (Cailee Spaeny) finds herself captivated by a dazzling romance with the legendary Elvis Presley (Jacob Elordi). While enjoying milkshakes at a local diner adjacent to her father Captain Beaulieu (Ari Cohen)‘s military base in Germany, a charming young man invites her to a party where none other than Elvis will be present. After securing her parents’ consent, she and her family arrive at the party, where the young man approaches them directly.
As she arrives at the party, Priscilla is immediately entranced by Elvis’s undeniable charisma. In a private conversation away from the crowd, Elvis shares his deep sorrow over the recent passing of his mother, revealing the emotional vulnerability behind his star persona. This shared moment forms a bond that leaves Priscilla utterly enchanted, and in return, Elvis shows genuine affection.
As the weeks roll by, thoughts of Elvis consume Priscilla’s mind, even amidst the typical trials of high school life. Concerned about the age difference between their daughter and the rock star, Priscilla’s parents, Ann Beaulieu (Dagmara Dominczyk) and Captain Beaulieu, express their worries. However, Elvis charms them with his upbeat personality and a promise to treat Priscilla with respect.
When Elvis concludes his military service and returns to the United States, Priscilla is left heartbroken and depressed. Her mother, Ann, attempts to encourage her to move on, urging her to find someone closer to her age. However, it isn’t long before Elvis reaches out once more, inviting Priscilla to summer at his iconic Graceland estate in Memphis, despite her parents’ hesitations.
Against all odds, Elvis secures a ticket and Priscilla embarks on the summer trip. Upon her arrival in Memphis, she quickly bonds with the household staff and meets Elvis’s beloved grandmother, affectionately known as “Dodger” (Lynne Griffin). Navigating this glamorous yet tumultuous lifestyle of parties and drugs, Priscilla becomes immersed in the world of the King and his entourage.
As time passes, Elvis encourages Priscilla to redefine her appearance, introducing her to trendy hairstyles and makeup styles. At her new Catholic school, she is perceived differently due to her high-profile connection. Yet, as she adapts to this new phase of her life, Priscilla demonstrates her willingness to make profound changes in her quest for love.
However, as Elvis’s film career skyrockets, Priscilla finds herself increasingly sidelined, wrestling with feelings of neglect amid suspicions of infidelity, particularly with Ann-Margret. Following a confrontation about his alleged unfaithfulness in Los Angeles, Elvis dismisses her concerns, deepening Priscilla’s sense of alienation and insignificance.
Unfortunately, the dynamic between them turns darker as Elvis reveals a more controlling and critical side, nitpicking Priscilla’s appearance and treating her as mere eye candy during social gatherings. This escalating tension culminates in explosive arguments, including a disturbing incident where his frustrations boil over, resulting in him striking Priscilla during a pillow fight.
In 1967, Elvis finally proposes, leading to their hasty marriage. However, as Priscilla becomes pregnant with their daughter, Lisa Marie, Elvis grapples with the weight of domestic life and retreats into his work and substance abuse. Over time, Priscilla grows weary of his incessant disappearances and the rumors surrounding his infidelities, notably with Nancy Sinatra.
Feeling trapped, Priscilla makes the courageous choice to live apart from Elvis, finding independence with their daughter in California, where she finds comfort in the presence of her karate instructor, Mike Stone (Evan Annisette). By 1973, after an unwelcome advance from Elvis during one of his performances, Priscilla takes a stand and resolves to leave him, filing for divorce.
As she packs her belongings, saying farewell to the life they once aspired to at Graceland, fans gather outside, unaware of the chaotic undercurrents that have plagued their relationship. With her heart heavy and her past behind her, Priscilla drives away, leaving Elvis and his fading empire in the distance, marking a poignant end to a once-grand romance.
