Jeremy “Powder” Reed, Sean Patrick Flanery, is a young albino man of extraordinary intellect who can sense the thoughts of the people around him. The school grounds soon become a proving ground. During a hunting trip with peers, Jeremy is threatened by John Box, a volatile student who views him as a freak. Before trouble escalates, a distant gunshot reveals that Harley Duncan, Brandon Smith, a deputy, has shot a deer. Back at the farm, the probate process with the bank underscores the fragility of Jeremy’s ties to the world that fears him. He is joined by Jessie, Donald, and Doug, who plead with him to come with them to a place where he can be understood and valued. Yet instead of leaving, he walks toward a field where a sudden lightning strike meets him, and he disappears in a blinding flash of light. In that moment, the same electrical force ripples outward, striking Jessie, Donald, Doug, and Harley as if the world itself were reconfiguring in response to the boy who could see the hidden threads that connect us all.
