Kunnath Madhavan Nair, a dedicated teacher, lives a simple, joyful life with his two sons, Raja and Surya Narayanan. Nedumudi Venu plays Madhavan Nair, while Mammootty embodies Raja and Prithviraj Sukumaran portrays Surya Narayanan. When a boy named Gopi from a rival family is killed, Raja steps forward to take the blame to protect his father, and he is released from prison. Yet Madhavan Nair refuses to accept his son’s innocence, deepening a rift between them that sends Raja away toward a new path. Raja travels to Madurai and, in a defining moment, saves the son of Maniannan, the village landlord. Charan Raj plays Maniannan, and grateful for the mercy shown, the landlord makes Raja his right-hand man, giving him the label Madurai Raja.
Years pass, and Raja rises as a formidable gangster known as Pokkiri Raja, while Surya grows up educated and increasingly prone to taking part in fights. To reform his younger brother, Surya is sent to Ernakulam to stay with his brother-in-law, SI Sugunan Suraj Venjaramoodu. In Ernakulam, Surya falls in love with Aswathy, the daughter of city commissioner Rajendra Babu Siddique. Sugunan, with a calculating touch, pushes Surya to operate in his police role, sending him out to tackle severe cases in a way that blurs the line between duty and danger. Aswathy’s feelings begin to complicate as she discovers Surya’s presence, and she harbors a deep distrust, believing he is a cop in disguise.
Aswathy reveals a painful secret: Rajendra Babu is her step-father and, years earlier, was linked to her mother’s death. Rajendra Babu’s calculated moves, and the fact that Mahendran—the Home Minister Kumaran’s son Riyaz Khan—also loves Aswathy, intensify the tension. The political power players move to end Surya, arresting him on false narcotics charges with Rajendra Babu and Mahendran orchestrating the frame, a plan that casts a long shadow over the personal stakes involved. The Home Minister Kumaran, a looming presence in this struggle, looms as a force behind the political pressure, while Surya’s fate seems intertwined with his brother Raja’s loyalties.
Hearing of Surya’s plight, Madhavan Nair travels back toward Madurai to enlist Raja’s help, recognizing the bond that now ties the brothers together. Realizing that Surya is, in fact, his brother, Raja rushes to rescue Surya and delivers a stark warning to Rajendra Babu. The two brothers then navigate a path through a gauntlet of obstacles, ultimately defeating the scheming rulers, though they choose to spare them rather than enact revenge. In the end, the story resolves with Surya reuniting with Aswathy, and the couple choosing to marry, signaling a uneasy peace that threads through family loyalties, love, and the consequences of a life caught between crime and conscience.
