Jack, a soda jerk, is madly in love with Sheba and has even asked her father for his blessing to marry. Pa Miller likes Jack, but Sheba refuses the match on account of the wage he earns. The scene establishes Sheba's dream of luxury and her initial preference for material security over romance.

Sheba convinces Jack to take her to the Pirates Den, a fancy nightclub. They are seated and are shocked by the prices, which leads Jack to suggest leaving. The disagreement marks the start of the glamour world’s pull on Sheba.

During the evening, Sheba enters a leg contest and wins first prize, receiving it from Nickey Solomon. She is dazzled by Nickey's flashy clothes and car, and begins to accept his attentions. In turn, she starts to pull away from Jack.

Solomon presses for marriage and Sheba, seduced by his wealth, agrees to become his wife. The arrangement marks a shift from her plan with Jack to a life with Nickey.

In need of cash, Solomon robs a local cigar store and shoots the man behind the counter. The crime sets off a chain of events that threaten Sheba's world and the safety of her family.

After a night of gambling with wealth, Solomon stops by Sheba's father's cigar store and tells Sheba that her father is fine and at the police station. In reality, her father lies in a hospital, wounded from the gunshot. Sheba remains unaware of the truth as they drive on.

Jack becomes suspicious that Solomon is behind the robbery and enlists the police to help with an entrapment plan. The goal is to coax Solomon into confessing and stopping him from fleeing town.

Under the plan's pressure, Solomon unwittingly confesses to the crime and agrees to skip town. He is arrested at the train station before he can board a train.

Solomon is taken to jail, ending his criminal spree and removing the immediate threat to Sheba and her father. The criminal chapter closes as the authorities secure him.

Sheba is informed that her father is perfectly fine, which brings relief to the family after the earlier fear. The news shifts the mood from danger back toward normalcy.

Humbled by the experience, Sheba agrees to marry Jack on his $35-a-week salary. The decision signals a pivot from glamour toward a stable, pragmatic life built on love.

The couple looks ahead to building a life together within their means, choosing loyalty and affection over luxury. The film closes on a note of grounded optimism for their future.
