Jill Deverne, a star of the all‑talking Picture Show, is married to songwriter Fred Deverne, and they move through Broadway nightlife of parties and cabaret. When a gangster pursues her and Fred spends a night with a floozie, Jill leaves him. She becomes the gangster’s moll, but soon tires of the danger and excess, longing for a simpler, honest life.
