Curtis replays memories of an abusive mother and a father who died in a car crash while working on Wyntech's top-secret project. He suspects Wyntech may have murdered his father for reasons connected to that project. Repressed memories begin to surface, hinting at a dangerous conspiracy tied to Dimension X.

Curtis's rival Bob is found brutally murdered in his cubicle, shocking the office and clouding Curtis with confusion and fear. He had joked about killing Bob, and his own apathy makes him fear he may have acted during a psychotic break. The incident destabilizes office relationships and deepens Curtis's paranoia.

Curtis navigates a complicated love life after Bob's death, dating commitment-seeker Jocilyn while becoming involved with Therese, who introduces him to the local S&M scene. He also admits to therapist Trevor's existence and his own attraction to Trevor, adding to his mounting emotional confusion. The personal entanglements intersect with growing suspicion and fear.

Curtis's superior Tom is murdered, pushing him to suspect his boss Paul Allen Warner after Warner had previously threatened Tom. As Curtis inches toward the truth, his therapist and Trevor are murdered, forcing him to confront Warner directly. The humanoid Hecatomb knocks Warner unconscious and declares itself a manifestation of the 'real' Curtis Craig. It reveals that the child who returned from the rift is an alien duplicate, while the real Curtis was trapped in Dimension X and mutated by the experiments. The duplicate's murder spree was a ploy to let the real Curtis reclaim his body.

The alien duplicate escapes the Hecatomb through the Dimension X portal, kills the real Curtis, and returns to Earth. This return sets the stage for the final confrontation with Jocilyn and the truth about Dimension X. The line between friend and foe dissolves as power shifts bodies.

Jocilyn reveals that she knows the truth and a message from Dimension X asks Curtis to return home.
