Patlabor 2: The Movie

Three years after the first film, Noa Izumi and Asuma Shinohara are testing new Labors at a Metropolitan Police facility. This marks a shift in how the force uses advanced technology to patrol and respond to threats.

Isao Ota serves as a police academy Labor instructor, and Mikiyasu Shinshi becomes Tokyo MP's head of General Affairs. Seitaro Sakaki retires and Shigeo Shiba takes over the labor maintenance lead; Yamazaki, Goto, and Nagumo remain, while Kanuka Clancy returns to New York.

Most of the original Section 2 members are replaced by fresh labor pilots. The team is rebuilt with new personnel to take on demanding assignments.

Suspicious events begin with signs of a GSDF military takeover of Tokyo after the Yokohama Bay Bridge is destroyed by a missile. Public belief points to the JASDF as the culprit, fueling a growing crisis.

Protests erupt at various JSDF bases as officials deny involvement in the bridge attack. The city braces for a rapid deterioration of civil-military relations.

Public panic deepens as JGSDF-marked gunships attack bridges, communication centers, and SV2 HQ. A supposed deadly gas is released after a rogue auto-piloted blimp is shot down, disrupting electronics in the Greater Tokyo Area.

Goto and Nagumo assemble the original Section 2 in an abandoned subway passage to prepare a secret operation against Yukihito Tsuge, a former GSDF officer behind the attacks. They intend to strike before external forces impose order.

With the threat looming, the team uses an old stretch of the Ginza Line to approach Yukihito Tsuge's hideout on an artificial island. The route is chosen for stealth and proximity to Tsuge's operations.

Goto facilitates the arrest of Shigeki Arakawa, a GSDF intelligence agent who is actually Tsuge's former cohort. The arrest removes a crucial ally from Tsuge's network.

A fierce fight unfolds inside the artificial island's tunnel, with water flooding complicating the operation. The team fights its way through, risking collapse and entrapment.

Nagumo breaches through and arrests Yukihito Tsuge, ending the immediate threat posed by the terrorist plot. The team evacuates the flooded tunnel as Tsuge is captured.

The operation underscores tensions between military power and civilian governance. Tokyo faces the consequences of potential US intervention and the fragility of peace after a crisis of this scale.
