A brutal murder shakes a small Southern town, sparking a triangle of passion, power and rage. Paris Trout, a bigoted store owner and loan‑shark who habitually sues locals, faces his lawyer Harry Seagraves, who becomes involved with Paris’s wife Hannah, a former schoolteacher trapped in an abusive marriage. Paris’s unchecked cruelty soon exceeds even the lawless bounds of the segregated South, spiraling into perverse insanity.
