In rural Gujarat, four women—Rani, Lajjo, Bijli, and Janki—navigate the oppressive customs that shape their lives. Each woman faces her own unique struggles, with societal expectations weighing heavily upon them.

Rani marries her son Gulab to the child bride Janki, hoping to ease the burden on her aging mother-in-law. However, this decision leads to unforeseen complexities as Gulab resists adult responsibilities.

Lajjo grapples with an abusive marriage to her alcoholic husband, Manoj. He relentlessly belittles her for her inability to conceive, leaving her in a state of despair and emotional turmoil.

During a visit to Janki, Rani and Lajjo are mesmerized by Bijli's captivating dance. Her performances provide a brief escape from the suffocating reality of their daily lives.

The local Gram Panchayat gathers to discuss pressing issues, including Champa's plea for help from her abusive husband. Despite her brave testimony, the council dismisses her cries for assistance.

Kishan, an entrepreneur, employs local women for craft work, earning their respect and admiration. His efforts to uplift the women anger some men in the village, including Gulab, who feels threatened by their newfound empowerment.
