Janaki broke off the engagement because she felt humiliated and guilty. During the chaotic movie set incident, Sambandham was injured while trying to shield Janaki from the berserk bull. Janaki performed an emergency surgery to save his life, but in the rushed and stressful moment, her wristwatch slipped from her wrist and accidentally fell into his abdominal cavity, where it remained hidden until revealed on an X-ray.

Sambandham's grandfather suffered a fatal heart attack when he discovered the truth about the watch incident and Janaki's manipulation. The shock of learning that his future granddaughter-in-law had deceived his grandson and broken off the engagement due to her own wrongdoing was too much for his heart, leading to his sudden death.

Janaki pushed Sambandham toward marrying Raji because she believed her own deception had ruined their relationship and felt she had lost the right to be with him. Additionally, there was a tight deadline - if Sambandham didn't marry within days, the lodge would be lost to the caste union. She genuinely wanted to save his family property, even at the cost of her own happiness.

Anand and Malathi's marriage strained because Malathi felt betrayed about a job opportunity in Australia that Anand had promised before their elopement but failed to secure. Janaki exacerbated the situation by counseling Malathi to doubt Anand's fidelity, and later by suggesting Anand might be unfaithful, which pushed the couple toward divorce.

The lodge had to be transferred through marriage within a specific number of days, or ownership would pass to the caste union. Sambandham had planned to transfer the lodge to Janaki as an orphanage if they married, but after their breakup and the grandfather's death, time was running out to meet this requirement and save the family property.
