Olive, a bright and resourceful Jack Russell Terrier, finds herself far from ordinary as Christmas Eve unfolds into a mission to save the holiday. Back home, Olive’s owner, Tim, is despondent, convinced that there “won’t be any Christmas” and frustrated by Olive’s refusal to act like a typical dog. Blitzen is unable to fly, and the rest of Santa’s reindeer must pull the weight if Christmas is to go on. At the gate, a stubborn security guard initially denies entry to Olive and Martini. Martini steps in with a clever ruse to disable the security system long enough for Olive to slip inside. The Postman trails in, delivering a parcel full of counterfeit letters that insult Santa Claus. The letters miss postmarks, exposing themselves as fakes, and Olive seizes the moment to confront the ruse. She reveals the truth and demonstrates that the sleigh cannot be canceled on the basis of forged notes. In a pivotal moment, Olive takes Blitzen’s place in the flight, though she struggles to keep pace with the other reindeer and the weight of the loaded bag.

With the sleigh in motion, Olive uses her keen nose to track the scents of the real presents and redirects Santa’s sleigh to the source of the theft: the Postman’s mail truck. A thick fog closes in just as they near Olive’s home, but Santa relies on Olive’s scent to guide the sleigh home to the North Pole (the story playfully notes that Rudolph has become more of an urban legend in this version).

Santa and his team arrive, grateful for Olive’s bravery. For her help, she is given honorary antler ears, and Comet offers her a ride back to her neighborhood. When Olive arrives home, she finds Tim relieved and proud of the courage she showed. The journey has changed more than just one dog: Martini has embraced a new line of work as a postman, while the former Postman is repurposed into a penguin with packing tape and cardboard wings, ready to work at the city zoo.
