Odette

In response to a radio appeal for photographs of France, Odette Sansom sends a letter to the Admiralty. This action draws the attention of the Special Operations Executive. It marks the beginning of her path toward becoming an espionage agent.

Odette is recruited by the Special Operations Executive and begins training in Britain. She completes her training in September 1942. The program qualifies her to operate behind enemy lines in France.

Odette is sent to France to begin covert work. She prepares for dangerous missions and starts gathering intelligence from occupied territory. Her role marks her entry into frontline espionage.

She arrives in Cannes and is met by Captain Peter Churchill, her superior. Odette also meets Arnaud, another agent, during this period. The trio begins laying the groundwork for their clandestine network.

Odette's first assignment takes her to Marseilles to obtain plans for the docks there. The mission tests her nerve as she works undercover in a hostile environment. She begins to build essential contacts for future operations.

A raid organized by Abwehr Colonel Henri forces Odette, Peter, and Arnaud to relocate to Annecy. They rendezvous with Jacques there and continue their work under tighter risk. The move reshapes their operational plan.

In Annecy they learn of the Maquis and Peter requests arms, medicines, and supplies for them. The effort strengthens ties with resistance fighters. Peter is recalled to London, prompting a shift in their plans.

Henri finds Odette in Annecy and, from a captured agent, learns about her network. He implies that disaffected Germans wish to contact the British, but Odette suspects a trap and orders the other agents to disperse. The warning underscores how close the network is to exposure.

Odette and Peter are captured in Annecy by Henri and taken to Fresnes Prison near Paris. Arnaud is away during the raid, leaving the network more exposed. Their capture threatens to dismantle the entire operation.

Odette is tortured by the Gestapo but does not break and remains steadfast. She is sentenced to death, and an apologetic Henri visits to allow one last glimpse of Peter while she keeps the truth hidden from him.

Odette is transported to Ravensbrück concentration camp on 26 July 1944 and placed in solitary confinement. The Germans believe the lies about Peter and Odette's role in the network, further isolating her.

With Germany collapsing, the camp commandant orders executions, but a subordinate is instructed to ensure Odette's safety. A guard escorts her to the advancing American forces as riots erupt among the inmates following Hitler's death.

Back in England, Odette is reunited with Peter Churchill. The wartime ordeal culminates in their relief and a sense of closure after years of danger and sacrifice.
