Amelia Davis runs a column and blog about battered women. A reader who signs as 'Embarrased' contacts her proposing she write a book. Amelia appreciates the support and begins to consider a broader project.

Embarrassed had a fight with her husband, who used to beat her. A shot is heard, but the film never shows exactly what happens next. The mystery around the incident motivates Amelia to pursue the book.

A year passes and Embarrassed continues helping Amelia with the manuscript for Never Give Up. She pushes Amelia to be more ambitious and public about the cause. Daryl, Amelia's ex-husband, is serving two more years in prison.

Amanda meets a man at a pub who refuses to share his number and gives her a card instead—Carlo Rossi, Architect. Later, Carlo and Amelia meet in a lift, hinting at a budding romance. Jenny encourages Amelia to go out with him.

Daryl Devine is released from prison on parole and is urged by his parole officer to find a job. Amelia's life becomes more monitored as rumors of his freedom spread.

Amelia suspects Daryl as her attacker, but investigators reveal that the credit card used to ring the threat was 14 km away. The mystery deepens as she wonders who is really after her.

The company promotional push leads to a nationwide rollout of Amelia's program. Jenny is replaced as partner by offering her a job; she takes a role writing about self-defence.

During a jog, Amelia runs into Carlo who is annoyed about the police visit and her missed calls. Daryl unexpectedly shows up at the bathroom during a moment with Amelia, professing his love and insisting nothing was her fault. Hank urges Amelia to stay somewhere safe, so she moves into Carlo's condo.

Daryl sues Amelia for defamation after her outspoken claims. He watches her angry TV speech and storms into Jenny's home, looking to intimidate Amelia. Jenny shoots Daryl and Carlo is also shot, leaving them both hospitalized.

Amelia uncovers that the letters signed Embarrased were written by Trevor, not Daryl. Jenny, the supposed husband-beater, is revealed to have killed Trevor and staged events to frame Amelia. The police end up attributing Embarrased to Jenny, leading to a shocking reversal.
