Nim's Island

Nim, an 11-year-old girl, lives on a stunning South Pacific island with her father, Jack Rusoe, a dedicated marine biologist. The island is filled with enchanting creatures, like Selkie the sea lion and Chica the sea turtle, whom Nim considers her family.

Nim's life is marked by the tragic loss of her mother, Emily, whose death is shrouded in a shared story about being taken by a blue whale. Jack has spent their time together protecting Nim from the harsher realities surrounding this loss.

Jack prepares for a crucial two-day scientific mission to track a newly named species of plankton called Protozoa nim, which honors Nim. He reluctantly agrees to leave Nim behind while trusting her to supervise Chica's egg hatching.

To ensure Nim's safety, Jack sets up a communication link through a satellite phone. This allows Nim to reach out to her father should any issues arise during his absence, providing a sense of security.
