Night Watch

From time immemorial, humans with supernatural abilities, the Others, have existed. A great medieval battle between Light and Dark ends in a truce, and both sides create guard forces to enforce it: the Night Watch for the Light and the Day Watch for the Dark.

With the truce, two police-like orders are formed to keep the peace between factions. The Night Watch enforces Light, while the Day Watch operates for Dark forces. Their existence shapes Moscow's hidden magical order for generations.

In Moscow, 1992, Anton Gorodetsky visits a witch named Daria to force a spell that would bring back his wife. He agrees to a harsh condition that would cause her to miscarry their illegitimate child. The spell is interrupted by intruders who restrain Daria.

The intruders notice that Anton can see them, revealing that he is also an Other. This marks his entry into the hidden war between Light and Dark.

Twelve years after the failed spell, Anton has joined the Night Watch and patrols Moscow. He begins to sense portents tied to an ancient prophecy about a powerful Other who could break the stalemate.

Anton's investigations bring to light portents that hint at a powerful Other who could tilt the balance toward the Dark. Geser explains the prophecy and the danger it presents.

Anton encounters Svetlana, a nurse whose life seems plagued by disaster, and a boy named Yegor who is connected to the looming prophecy. Their fates become entwined with his quest.

In the climax, Anton realizes Svetlana is an Other and begins teaching her to control her abilities. He aims to prevent a catastrophic storm from leveling Moscow.

Anton discovers that Yegor is his own son, conceived when he mistakenly believed his wife's lover was the father. This revelation reshapes his personal stake in the prophecy.

The truth emerges that the child Yegor is actually Anton's son, not the result of a lover. The failed spell is tied to this hidden family drama, intensifying his responsibility toward Yegor.

In a moment of helpless rage, Anton strikes Zavulon, the Dark faction leader, as the prophecy appears fulfilled. He voices a vow to continue fighting despite overwhelming odds.

The film closes with the sense that darkness has won a round, but Anton remains determined to resist. The ending emphasizes his vow to persevere and guide Svetlana and Yegor forward.
