A promising young poet, Adam Mickiewicz, spends his summer at a friend's estate, where he encounters the beautiful Maryla. He quickly falls for her, but his affections are complicated by the presence of his close friend, Thomas Zan, who is also drawn to Maryla. A rivalry develops between the two men as they compete for her attention, culminating in a confrontation. Adam ultimately prevails, and Tomasz departs, allowing Adam to pursue his love and find happiness with Maryla.
