His memory is the sole link binding the murder to justice. In the 1980s, Mel—a Hungarian‑born Jew who survived Auschwitz—and Jane, a Southern Baptist from Tennessee, become a high‑profile California couple. Their four children are ordinary American youths, occasionally at odds, yet they rally together with love and resolve when it truly counts.
