Manoharlal originally willed his eleven lakh rupee estate (nine lakhs in property and two lakhs in cash) to Kuldeep, his sister-in-law's son. However, after witnessing Kuldeep's bad behavior, Manoharlal decided to change his will and give the entire fortune to Madan Gopal instead. This change in the will sets the main conflict in motion, as Kuldeep ends up inheriting everything after Manoharlal's death.

Raksha ran away from her wedding because she learned that her groom was Surjit. Overhearing Madan and his friend discussing the wedding, where Madan casually mentioned he would run away if he were in the bride's place, gave her the idea to escape the arranged marriage she was unhappy with.

Madan's comment about running away from an unwanted marriage plants the idea in Raksha's mind.

Madan met Raksha while traveling to Bombay in his truck. On the way, his friend dragged him toward a wedding, and when Madan commented that he would run away if he were the bride, Raksha overheard this conversation and decided to hide in Madan's truck to escape her own wedding to Surjit.

Raksha disguised herself as a Sikh boy by wearing traditional male attire and adopting the name "Sardar Nihal Singh." She hid in Madan's truck in this disguise. The disguise eventually came loose during the journey, revealing her to be a girl, though Madan remained unaware of her full past.

When Madan arrived in Bombay, he went to meet his friend Radheshyam and learned devastating news: his uncle Manoharlal had died, and the letter Madan carried offering him eleven lakh rupees was already several months old. Furthermore, all the property had already been claimed by Kuldeep and his mother.

After discovering Raksha's disguise, Madan quarrels with her but is compelled to keep her along because she has money, food, and water supplies. Despite the tense beginning, the two eventually fall in love during the journey, with Madan playfully teasing her by calling her a "thief."

Kuldeep is the son of Manoharlal's sister-in-law. He was originally the heir to Manoharlal's eleven lakh rupee estate until Manoharlal changed his will after observing Kuldeep's poor behavior. After Manoharlal's death, Kuldeep and his mother successfully claimed the property.
