Years after a father left his son Rudhran in Kashi, Varanasi, due to astrological warnings, he returns 14 years later with a heavy heart and a hopeful pull to reunite his family, arriving with his daughter by his side. He is stunned to discover that Rudhran has embraced a radically different path: he has become an Aghori, a fierce, tigerish sadhu who is said to grant moksha and halt the cycle of rebirth. Despite this jarring transformation, the father keeps his promise to Rudhran’s mother and brings him back to Tamil Nadu, hoping to mend the fractures of the past.

Back home, a tangled web of power and poverty unfolds. Thandavan, a ruthless figure, oversees a covert group of physically and mentally challenged beggars, exploiting their vulnerability for profit. Among the beggars is Hamsavalli, a blind girl who has been separated from her troupe of street actors. Hamsavalli’s fragile trust is quickly tested as she becomes a target of Thandavan’s cruelty, setting a dark current running beneath the larger narrative.

Meanwhile, Rudhran withdraws from family life, choosing the solitude of a small cave near a hill temple as his new dwelling. Despite earnest pleas from his mother and from Hamsavalli herself, he resists returning home, their appeals bouncing off a wall of resolve that seems unbreakable. Thandavan, seeking greater profit, strikes a shady deal with a businessman to sell several beggars for a tidy sum. The arrangement is brutal: the beggars are taken by force, and the sale is completed behind closed doors. The plot thickens when the deal returns with a deformed man who pressures Hamsavalli to marry him for a hefty ₹10 lakhs.

Hamsavalli, supported by her friends, makes her way to Rudhran for aid, hoping he will intervene. A confrontation ensues as Rudhran’s protective streak erupts; he fights Thandavan’s men and even kills the businessman, a deed that leaves him vulnerable to police inquiry. Although the authorities cannot locate the body and fear a potential curse, they are forced to release him, leaving a cloud of mystery hanging over the events.

Seeking safety, Hamsavalli turns to the church for refuge, only to fall back into Thandavan’s clutches when she resists the forced marriage and the loss of money it would have brought him. The cruelty intensifies, and a furious Thandavan ultimately confronts Rudhran in a violent clash that ends with Thandavan dead. The world grows smaller and more desperate as a badly wounded Hamsavalli drags herself toward Rudhran, begging for release from the mortal coil and for moksha so she cannot be born again.

In the end, Rudhran channels the mercy and finality she asks for, performs her last rites near the sacred banks of Kashi, and returns to the sacred city with a sense of quiet resolution, carrying the weight of untold stories—those of a family torn between old beliefs and new paths, and of a life that moves inexorably toward spiritual absolution.
