My Broken Mariko

Tomoyo believes Mariko's father, who subjected her to psychological and sexual violence, would not give Mariko a proper memorial. She views stealing the ashes as the only way to ensure Mariko gets the tribute she deserves, rather than risk the father disposing of them or refusing any ceremony.

Tomoyo reaches the cliff overcome by grief and impulsively attempts to jump, marking a sudden emotional crisis. However, at the critical moment she spots the girl being pursued and her instinct to intervene overrides her despair, preventing her from jumping.

The girl Tomoyo sees is a stranger who bears a striking physical resemblance to Mariko. She is being pursued by a stalker when Tomoyo spots her. The uncanny similarity appears to be coincidence rather than any connection to Mariko herself.
