The fictionalized tale follows Joaquin Murrieta, the real‑life Mexican bandit who prowled California with his gang of raiders and cutthroats during the early‑to‑mid‑19th century. While some view him as a ruthless outlaw, others cast him as a Mexican Robin Hood, a folk hero to many.
