A rare period of beauty frames a desperate love story based on true events. A troubled young man murders his sister’s abusive, reactionary husband, a member of the Italian nobility. His arrest quickly becomes a political trial, targeting his socialist beliefs and his father’s well‑known liberal reform work rather than the homicide itself.
