What Happens in Monkey Businessmen: Full Plot Summary

The whole story of Monkey Businessmen (1946) explained, from the opening scene to the final frame: every key event, every twist and what it all adds up to. Read it as a quick recap before the sequel, to check a scene you missed, or to finally understand what really happened.

The Stooges, Moe Howard, Larry Fine, and Curly Howard, are inept electricians whose clumsy tricks cost them their job with their boss, Mr. Jordan, after they accidentally electrocute themselves and their client, "Smilin'" Sam McGann, and mess up the wiring.

Seeking a break, Curly suggests a retreat to Mallard's Rest Home, lured by an advertisement promising rest and relaxation.

At the rest home, Dr. Mallard prescribes a regimen of exercise paired with a milk-based diet. The Stooges are assigned to two nurses, including Jean Willes as Nurse Shapely. The trio soon discovers the nurses are actually men, turning their initial curiosity into suspicion.

During training, a mishap with weights renders the nurses unconscious and exposes Dr. Mallard's fraudulent intentions. The Stooges attempt to flee, but Curly is injured and they are captured by Mallard's henchmen. In a series of slapstick escapes, they outwit their pursuers, with Moe and Larry briefly trapped in a steam room.

In a stroke of luck, Curly fixes the foot of a wealthy man, earning him a windfall of $1,000. With this money in hand, Curly proposes using it to fund more relaxation, but Moe and Larry resist, delivering their characteristic brand of retribution to keep the trio in line.

In the background, Mr. Grimble, the rest home's manager, adds another layer of chaos, portrayed by Harry 'Snub' Pollard.
