Mobile Suit Gundam: Char's Counterattack (1988)

Char Aznable returns as the leader of Neo Zeon, rallying his forces for a massive offensive against the Earth Federation. He believes that humanity must abandon Earth and reject gravity to achieve true freedom. This belief drives his radical plans to reshape humanity.

Char's forces attempt to drop the asteroid Fifth Luna onto Earth in a catastrophic plan to trigger a nuclear winter. This bold action puts the entire planet in jeopardy, leading to a desperate response from the Federation's Londo Bell task force.

The special task force Londo Bell, consisting of veteran pilots including Amuro Ray and Bright Noa, engages Neo Zeon to prevent the asteroid catastrophe. Their experience from the One Year War becomes crucial as they prepare for battle against their formidable rival Char.

As the conflict escalates, Amuro Ray pilots the RGZ-91 Re-GZ and faces Char in the MSN-04 Sazabi. Despite Amuro's Newtype abilities, Char's superior technology gives him the upper hand, forcing Amuro to retreat as Fifth Luna hurtles closer to Earth.

On Earth, Vice Minister Adenauer Paraya and his daughter Quess struggle to evacuate before the impending disaster. Mirai Noa, Bright's wife, must make a heart-wrenching choice about which of her children will board the evacuation shuttle, opting to send her son Hathaway.

Londo Bell's command ship, the Ra Cailum, departs for the moon to retrieve Amuro's new mobile suit, the RX-93 ν Gundam. Engineer Chien Agi presents the Gundam to Amuro, cautioning him about the mysterious psycho-frame technology that powers it.

During a secret meeting at Londenion, the true purpose of the Vice Minister's peace treaty with Neo Zeon is revealed. Char intends to manipulate the Earth Federation, using the treaty as a façade to prepare for a catastrophic assault, confirming his ruthless strategy.

Quess, now swayed by Char's influence, intervenes during a confrontation between Amuro and Char. Unbeknownst to her, her actions escalate the conflict, marking a point of no return as she becomes entangled in Char's dangerous plans.

As Amuro fights to prevent catastrophic destruction, he detonates the nuclear reactors on Axis. However, despite their efforts, part of the asteroid still hurtles towards Earth, leading to devastation beyond imagination.

In a final desperate act, Amuro harnesses the collective will of humanity, focusing it through the ν Gundam's psycho-frame. This powerful surge enables the remaining pilots to join forces, working together to push the remnants of Axis off their deadly course.

Following the harrowing battle, Hathaway and others witness the aurora resulting from the remnants of Axis. The conflict leaves deep scars on all involved, raising questions about hope, loss, and the future of mankind.
