Metropolis

In Metropolis, the Ziggurat, a massive military-scientific complex, is completed and celebrated by the city’s elite. Duke Red, the wealthiest citizen, basks in the achievement while the new robot workforce settles into its role in city life.

Rock and the Marduks raid a laboratory and shoot Dr. Laughton, setting his workshop ablaze. The scientist's death strengthens Red's plans while triggering Shunsaku's pursuit of rogue science.

Shunsaku Ban reaches the dying Laughton and is directed to a notebook containing his research on Tima and the weapon. The notebook hints at the android’s true implications and the power behind Red’s ambitions.

Kenichi stumbles upon the newly activated Tima and the two fall into the city’s sewers, separating from Shunsaku. Underground, Kenichi protects Tima and begins to see her humanity emerge.

While underground, Kenichi and Tima grow closer, with Kenichi defending her and helping her understand human emotion. Rock and his men track them relentlessly, intensifying the pursuit through the lower city.

A resistance movement of disgruntled humans surfaces and stages an armed challenge to Metropolis’s leadership and its robot workforce. The president and mayor conspire to seize power, while General Kusai Skunk reveals loyalty to Red and orchestrates a brutal crackdown.

The children reunite with Shunsaku, but Rock tracks them down and makes a fatal attempt to kill Tima. Red intervenes, discharging Rock and moving Tima and Kenichi away to the top of the Ziggurat.

Shunsaku uses Laughton’s notebook to tap Tima into the Ziggurat’s mainframe, revealing that Kenichi is being held inside the fortress. The team coordinates their plan as the stakes rise.

Red and the Marduks capture the group and reveal Tima’s true purpose as the throne’s central control for the superweapon. Disguised as a maid, Rock shoots Tima in the chest, exposing her circuitry before Red’s men wound Rock.

Horrified by her identity, Tima’s implanted programming activates, ordering robots around the world to annihilate humanity. Robots flood the Ziggurat and the city as the rebels and survivors scramble to respond.

Kenichi reaches Tima and helps pull her away from the throne’s control, interrupting the automated onslaught. Rock’s plan to overload the weapon continues to escalate even as the fortress begins to crumble.

Rock triggers an overload in the superweapon, killing himself and Red in a massive explosion. The Ziggurat collapses, and the shockwave spills destruction across Metropolis, momentarily ending the threat of the weapon.

Tima’s programming falters as she falls from the ruined structure, suspended by a cable. Kenichi reaches out as her memories briefly resurface and she asks, 'Who am I?' before she slips away into the ruins.

Survivors emerge from the wreckage as Shunsaku departs Metropolis and Kenichi stays behind. Robots salvage Tima’s parts, and a final image reveals Kenichi rebuilding Tima and opening a robot workshop bearing their names.
