The towering Ziggurat at the city’s heart represents military power and scientific ambition driving the plot. The urban landscape is a battleground between opulence and squalor, technology and humanity.

Metropolis juxtaposes a wealthy elite with a sprawling underclass that lives among polluted lower levels. Robots serve the city’s infrastructure while humans blame them for economic displacement.
