Within a close-knit Hasidic community in New York, Menashe, a kind but somewhat clumsy grocery store worker, finds himself unexpectedly responsible for raising his young son Rieven. Following the death of his wife Leah, tradition requires him to seek help from his brother-in-law, who challenges his ability to care for Rieven. Menashe must then strive to demonstrate his worthiness as a father and a man of faith during a week leading up to Leah's memorial, navigating a difficult custody situation and seeking connection within his community.
