Melinda

Frankie J. Parker works as a Los Angeles radio disc jockey and keeps up his karate lessons with his friend Charles Atkins. His laid-back, womanizing style contrasts with the more serious path his life begins to take.

A woman recently arrived from Chicago listens to Frankie's radio show and later introduces herself as Melinda when they meet at Tank Robertson's nightclub. The chance encounter leads to an invitation to a party on Tank's yacht and draws Frankie into her orbit.

Frankie invites Melinda to a party on Tank's yacht, which stirs jealousy in his girlfriend Terry. The invite links Melinda to Frankie's world and raises tensions among the trio.

Frankie takes Melinda back to his apartment, unaware they are being followed by a thug. The looming threat hints at the danger behind Melinda's arrival.

They make love that night, and the next morning Melinda tells Frankie he has the makings of a more serious, substantial man. Frankie begins to realize he has developed deep feelings for her.

Frankie leaves for work and returns to find his apartment ransacked and Melinda murdered. Melinda's real name is Audrey Miller, the former mistress of Mitch, a Chicago gangster seeking a missing item.

Frankie learns that Mitch is behind Melinda's murder and that a missing item may be involved. A junkie named Marcia tries to abduct Frankie, but he overpowers her; Marcia dies in the struggle.

Frankie discovers Tank is Mitch's business associate and owes him money. The missing item Melinda took is in a bank safe-deposit box, and Melinda had mailed the key to Frankie so he can access it.

Terry impersonates Melinda to retrieve the item from the bank. Inside the gold cigarette case is a tape recording that is intended to incriminate Mitch.

Terry is taken prisoner, forcing Frankie to go to Mitch's mansion to broker a trade. He brings Atkins and his karate students for backup.

Frankie, Atkins and the karate students locate Terry in a snake-filled cage inside Mitch's mansion and mount a rescue. They confront Mitch and attempt to secure Terry's release.

Frankie holds Mitch at gunpoint; Mitch taunts that the tape cannot incriminate him because it is inaudible. Enraged, Frankie nearly beats Mitch to death and ends his control over Melinda's fate.

In the aftermath, Frankie and Terry share a kiss and embrace as they walk toward his car, signaling a tentative new beginning after the ordeal.
