“I can solve any murder without moving from my desk!” Rex Stout’s portly detective boasts that he can crack cases from the comfort of his home, assigning the field work to others. When two unexpected deaths occur, the police are unsure they are murders, and he must sift through a roster of suspects—using his friend, a police inspector, and careful deduction—to pinpoint the true killer.
