In 1929, Francis Massey serves as the “English Type Babu” to the Deputy Commissioner in a tribal town of India. Proud of his Christian faith and English, he feels superior to other Indians, like the white sahibs. Though he rose from humble birth and improvises, the rigid Raj leaves no room for his ambitions, and he hopes Deputy Commissioner will rescue him.
