Queen Ingrith harbors deep resentment toward fairies due to past tragedies. Her brother was killed during the initial encounter with the horned monster in the Moors, and she blames all magical creatures for this loss. Her true motivation is revenge and the eradication of the fairy population, using the iron-based weapons and the wedding as a cover to commit genocide against the Moorfolk.

Ingrith poisoned King John using a cursed blade during the dinner scene. She stabbed him with a envenomed spindle while everyone was focused on the confrontation between Maleficent and Aurora. This allowed her to frame Maleficent for the assassination attempt and advance her political agenda against the fairies.

Earlier, Ingrith is shown in her dark chamber creating weapons from a mysterious blossom and an envenomed spindle.

Maleficent discovers she is a descendant of the fairy phoenix, an ancient and incredibly powerful being. This heritage explains her immense magical abilities and her ability to be reborn. When Ingrith's arrow strikes her, Maleficent undergoes a phoenix-like resurrection, rising from the ashes of her previous form with enhanced powers.

Conall warns Maleficent about the ancient power of the phoenix lineage and how her forebear once wielded it for malevolent purposes.

Iron acts as a powerful poison to fairies, significantly weakening their magical abilities and causing physical harm. Queen Ingrith exploits this vulnerability by decorating the dinner table with iron cutlery specifically to weaken Maleficent. Her soldiers later use iron projectiles and iron-infused red powder as weapons against the Moorfolk.

Conall, the dark fairy who rescued Maleficent from the ocean, sacrifices himself to protect the Moors during Ingrith's attack. When Ingrith's soldiers invade the fairy homeland, Conall uses his remaining life force to shield Maleficent and merge with the earth, dying in the process. His sacrifice galvanizes the fairies to rally together against the human threat.

Conall warns Maleficent about the dangers facing their kind and guides her to the hidden realm of dark fairies.

Maleficent undergoes a phoenix-like resurrection after Ingrith's arrow strikes her. As a descendant of the fairy phoenix, she has the ability to be reborn from destruction. The arrow's magical energy triggers her transformation, causing her to rise from the ashes with renewed power, allowing her to defeat Ingrith in the final confrontation.

Forced into servitude, she assists Ingrith in creating the iron weapons despite being a magical being herself. Her knowledge of the cursed knife and the weapon-making process suggests she remains under Ingrith's control through magical or political coercion.

The red powder is a lethal weapon crafted by Lickspittle under Ingrith's orders. Made from iron-infused petals of a mysterious flower, it can instantly kill any fairy it touches. Gerda demonstrates its deadly effect on a dandelion fairy and later uses it during the wedding battle to devastate the Moorfolk.

Aurora discovers Ingrith's treachery when a small puncture wound on her finger triggers her fairy intuition. Following this instinct, she finds Ingrith's hidden lair and uncovers the grisly truth: Ingrith used a cursed blade to murder King John and has been planning the fairy genocide all along.

After her defeat, Queen Ingrith is transformed into a goat as punishment for her betrayals and attempted genocide against the fairies. This magical transformation serves as a ironic consequence for her cruelty toward magical beings, while King John is awakened from his cursed sleep by Maleficent using the spindle's reversed magic.
