Madeline

Lord Covington decides to close the school and sell the building shortly after his wife Lady Covington dies. Since she was a board member who deeply loved the school, her death removes his personal connection to the institution. He announces the closure as a direct consequence of her passing, leaving the girls and Miss Clavel facing homelessness.

Madeline saves the school through a combination of factors. After the kidnapping incident where Pepito is abducted, the police arrest the kidnappers and the commotion reaches the Uzbek ambassador who was planning to buy the property. When Lord Covington expresses his own loss after his wife's death, Madeline consoles him by reminding him that Lady Covington's spirit remains with them. Moved by this, the ambassador decides not to proceed with the purchase, allowing the school to remain open.

During her hospital stay after appendicitis, Lady Covington tells Madeline about her deep affection for the school and reveals she carved her birth name into a bed frame years ago. She asks Madeline to check if the name still exists. After Lady Covington dies, Madeline discovers the carving and adds her own name beside it, fulfilling her promise. This act gives Madeline a personal connection to Lady Covington's legacy and motivates her to fight for the school's survival.

Despite his initial mocking behavior towards the girls, including disrupting their routines with his Vespa and stealing Madeline's drawing pad, Pepito eventually teams up with Madeline to sabotage the sale. Their partnership develops after Miss Clavel tries to channel his energy constructively. Though their plan to stop the sale ultimately fails, it marks the beginning of their collaboration. Their shared goal of saving the school transforms their rivalry into alliance.

Madeline falls from a bridge into the Seine while on a daily walk and is rescued by a stray Labrador. The dog, later named Genevieve, follows Madeline back to the school. Despite Miss Clavel's allergy to dogs, the girls plead to keep her, and Genevieve becomes a permanent fixture at the school. She later helps track down the children during the kidnapping chase.

While running away from the school fearing homelessness, Madeline encounters a kidnapping scheme being planned by Leopold (her tutor) with a group of clowns called the Idiots. They intend to abduct Pepito for ransom. Madeline accidentally discovers the plot and is captured along with Pepito when she tries to escape. The circus becomes the setting for this dangerous ordeal that ultimately leads to the resolution of the school's fate.

The ambassador initially intends to purchase the school building from Lord Covington. However, after the kidnapping incident creates chaos and brings attention to the situation, combined with Madeline's emotional consolation to Lord Covington about losing Lady Covington, the ambassador chooses mercy over business. He decides not to proceed with the sale, which saves the school from closure.

Madeline develops appendicitis and must undergo an emergency appendectomy at a Paris hospital. This hospital stay is pivotal because she befriends Lady Covington, the terminally ill wife of a school board member. Their friendship and Lady Covington's revelations about her love for the school become central to the plot's emotional core and Madeline's motivation to save the institution.

Madeline runs away to the circus because she fears becoming homeless after Lord Covington announces the school's closure. Desperate to find a new home, she approaches the circus people hoping they might take her in. Instead, she stumbles upon Leopold's kidnapping plot, leading to her own capture alongside Pepito.

Madeline and Pepito manage to break free from Leopold and the Idiots during the chaos of the escape. They steal a motorcycle and use Madeline's hair clip to start it. They are pursued by the kidnappers until Miss Clavel arrives and intercepts them. The Idiots crash into a lake while trying to escape, and authorities arrest the criminals.

At Pepito's birthday party, he displays a mouse to the girls and jokes about killing it, which disturbs the students. Madeline becomes furious and confronts him, leading to a scuffle. During the chaos, Madeline releases all of Pepito's mice, causing the party to end early. This incident escalates the tension between Pepito and the girls while also heightening the sense of danger surrounding the school threat.
