A highly stylized, critically praised 1970s work blends silent‑film cards, vivid colour, an atmospheric soundscape and opera music to probe the Freudian themes of male fear of women that Wedekind exposed. It unfolds as a kinetic melodrama tracing a femme‑fatale’s rise and tragic fate, reinterpreting Pabst’s silent classic and Alban Berg’s opera.
