In the sequel, several years after Lillian’s adoption, she meets a new love interest—her adoptive father’s assistant—while her protective dad becomes increasingly overbearing. Meanwhile, Annie, now married and pregnant, visits her doctor friend Dr. Owen, who longs for a child but struggles with infertility. Their intertwined hopes surface.
