Philip, a young and ambitious writer, struggles with the frustrations of city life and a strained relationship. He travels to the countryside to spend the summer with Ike Zimmerman, a more established author he admires. During his time there, Philip becomes increasingly self-absorbed, prompting introspection and forcing him to examine the disconnect between his writing and his actual life experiences.
